Tao Geoghegan Hart is determinedly recovering from an accident that cut short his plans at this year’s Giro d’Italia, when he appeared to be heading towards a possible second Maglia Rosa. Although the fall was a painful setback, Geoghegan Hart has exceeded all expectations regarding his recovery and is preparing to lead the Lidl-Trek team in the 2024 Tour de France.

“It’s going much better than expected,” Geoghegan Hart shared about his recovery. Although some lasting effects persist, such as the forty to fifty centimeters of titanium in his leg, the British cyclist is optimistic and feels whole again. “The training is going well, although he expected some setbacks in the body, but everything is going great,” he stated for In de Leiderstrui.

With his move to Lidl-Trek, Geoghegan Hart faces a new process, leading the team in the Tour de France. After years with INEOS, the transition has not been easy. “It was difficult to leave, I was there since 2014. A team with a great history, and it is difficult that I have not been able to say goodbye to many people,” the British cyclist reflected on his departure.

Despite the nostalgia, Geoghegan Hart is excited for the next chapter in his career. “I am proud to have invested a lot in the environment of that group,” he said of his experience in the Giro. Although he faces the uncertainty of how he would have performed with INEOS, Geoghegan Hart is determined to reach that level again and is grateful for the friendships he has cultivated in the cycling world.
