‘We tried our best’
On the evening of February 9, the program Year-End Meeting – Kitchen God 2024 aired. This is one of the most awaited entertainment programs during Tet. However, many viewers expressed disappointment when the familiar cast was replaced along with the script innovation.
The majority of opinions say that this year’s program is unattractive, the script is bland, and the content is rambling. In addition, Tao Quan 2024 was criticized for incorporating too much advertising, being unattractive and forced.
Thanh Huong appeared for the first time in Tao Quan.
Responding to the audience’s reaction, Thanh Huong shared that she and the program crew had tried their best. According to Thanh Huong, participating in Tao Quan 2024 is luck and the dream of many artists.
“I just try to do my role well, and renewing the program or ‘changing’ the artists is the job of the producer and director. However, I think all changes are calculated by the team,” Thanh Huong said.
The actress also emphasized that the young artists still have many shortcomings. However, the newer and weaker they are, the harder they try to do their role in the program well.
“We have tried a lot, we are not lazy, and if we have not met the audience’s expectations, we can only try harder to improve ourselves. Honestly, we have never thought about replacing or comparing with the previous Tao Quan brothers and sisters. The roles in the show have been their trademark for the past 20 years,” Thanh Huong shared.
Also participating in the program Tao Quan 2024 for the first time as Tao Van The, actress Tu Oanh joked that the amount of time she appeared was just one sneeze.
On her personal page, actress Tu Oanh shared that she was willing to listen and receive enough bricks and stones to build a resort when she first came to visit. According to Tu Oanh, getting the program to air is the effort of the entire crew. The actress admitted that she was under pressure when receiving invitations and scripts from the show.
“I spent 3 days wondering how to start. The program left a huge impression on the audience. Furthermore, the previous cast did so well that the audience will remember their roles every time they see their siblings and colleagues. However, we are also excited and happy when we have new opportunities. During that time, our emotions were mixed with anxiety, nervousness and excitement,” Tu Oanh said.
Not surprised by the audience’s mixed reactions
Actor Anh Duc said that the Tao Quan 2024 crew usually practices from 7pm to 11pm.
“After practice, we sat together to exchange experiences until 2-3 a.m. the next day, and so on for nearly a month. There were times when we had to sit down and think about the script, modify it to make it appropriate, rehearse just one segment all week, but when it came time to review, cut and make further changes while the recording time was only a few days left. It was really a big pressure but also a memorable memory,” Anh Duc recalled.

The actor said he was not surprised when the show aired and received mixed reactions from the audience. “When I position myself as an audience, I also understand that veteran artists are those who have been together for many years and created the Tao Quan brand.
Suddenly changing almost 100% of the actors and the new script will shock the audience. But that is the story of the insiders and our mission is to try our best, work hard and practice day and night when called to participate in the program. We strive to bring the audience the best program possible. Hopefully the audience will gradually get used to and accept this new change,” the actor confided.
For many years participating in the program Tao Quan 2024, actor Trung Ruoi calmly accepted comments from viewers. The actor shared a happy memory when on the morning of the first day of Tet, when going out and on social networks, people often greeted him “Uncle Chuan, not Chinh”.
“When I am called like that, I feel happy and humorous. This year, VTV has many good programs from Spring Flowers to Kitchen Gods, Laughing Gala, Twelve Zodiac Animals and on the evening of the 5th day of Tet is a TV actor exchange. Each program is like a dish on Tet holiday and some people like that dish, others like that dish.
I am always ready with the spirit of dedicating myself so that the audience, myself and my family can have a happy and meaningful Tet season. Artists like us always hope to have many programs that suit the audience’s tastes. Every contribution from the audience, wherever they are, is a great suggestion for us to improve future programs,” Trung Ruoi shared.
