In Taormina from 16 to 20 June. Among the 200 guests – writers, scientists, artists – also Michel Houellebecq, Paul Auster, Giorgio Parisi, Petros Markaris, Toni Servillo

A multitude of guests, a now classic gala evening, but also a new format dedicated to art: the XII edition of the Taobuk festival will take place from Thursday 16 to Monday 20 June in Taormina, conceived and directed by Antonella Ferrara. The exhibition, created with the support of the Sicilian Region and the Taormina Arte Sicilia Foundation, will bring together about 200 Italian and international writers, scientists, essayists and artists, around a theme, the Veritwhich evokes the contradictions of contemporary society and the many questions of an era of conflict.

Verit, the theme chosen for this XII edition – explained the creator Ferrara – a word that is neither plural nor singular: not dogmatic, but pervaded by doubt, tells of a research that well expresses the contradictions of our time: a necessary effort, which is located at the very root of knowledge. Heraclitus argued that “nature loves to hide”. Here, the festival goes to the bottom, and from literature goes beyond and intersects other fields, arts and sciences, to contemplate broader points of view on the world.

Precisely the manifesto of the review, created by the Sicilian master Emilio Isgr, is dedicated to the doubt that accompanies the truth: a big question mark that remains almost the only intelligible message among the erasures that are the artist’s signature. Isgr will be among the protagonists of the gala evening in which the Taobuk Awards will be assigned as every year: Saturday 18 June, at the Ancient Theater of Taormina, the same award will be received by Isgr himself, the writers Paul Auster and Michel Houellebecq (Taobuk Awards for the ‘Literary excellence), the physicist Giorgio Parisi, the director Roberto And, the actor Toni Servillo. The awarding of the prizes will be accompanied by performances by Malika Ayane, soprano Olga Peretyatko, violinist Alessandro Quarta and Jacopo Tissi, former principal dancer of the Bolshoi, with the Orchestra of the Bellini Theater in Catania.

In the ten different strands of the festival, the theme is bent and transformed: it becomes the search for truth for scientists, for example, or the investigation for literary investigators, or the illusion of truth in art, or the concept of reality and falsehood in the world at war. It begins on Thursday 16, from 10 am, with the journalist and writer Matteo Collura on the nature of God, and continues with the philosopher Maurizio Ferraris on the sometimes hazy border between post-truth and reality, and with the writer Elena Loewenthal on the genre of language, which at times conveys stereotypes about the feminine. Also on the 16th, in the afternoon, meetings with authors such as Massimo Maugeri, Giancarlo De Cataldo, Valerio Magrelli, Andrea Vitali, and reading essayists such as the doctor Giuseppe Remuzzi, on the truth of the word and the health emergency, and the sociologist Domenico De Masi on work and leisure.
