by times news cr

Marking the beginning of a new era for the cannabis industry in Morocco, this inauguration, held in the presence of the governor of the province of Taounate, Saleh Daha, is part of the implementation of law 13-21 on the legal uses of cannabis. It promises to bring significant changes, particularly with the creation of jobs and the development of a high value-added sector, aimed at improving the local economy and promoting a more responsible industry.

In a statement to the press on the sidelines of this inauguration ceremony, Mr. El Guerrouj stressed that the effective start of activities of this first processing plant opens up new perspectives for the local economy.

“Thanks to the joint efforts of the government and ANRAC, all the conditions are in place for a successful launch of this new industry,” he said.

He said that among the priorities of this launch is the support of investors and farmers, noting that “this initiative will allow a growing number of local players to benefit from the opportunities offered by this new legal sector.”

At the same time, the Director General of ANRAC stressed that the agency has also launched a rigorous control program to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.

According to him, “this program aimed at promoting a responsible and quality industry, will be evaluated regularly in order to guarantee its effectiveness and its adaptation to developments in the sector.”

On the sidelines of this ceremony, Mustapha El Missouri, an investor from Taounate, shared his enthusiasm about the prospects offered by this new industry.

In a statement to MAP, Mr. El Missouri stressed that this new cannabis processing unit is the result of a substantial investment of 20 MDH and a long-term vision for the region.

“Built on an area of more than 3000m², this factory integrates nurseries and state-of-the-art industrial extraction units,” explained the project leader.

Highlighting the positive impact on local employment, he added that this project has enabled the creation of 25 permanent jobs, in addition to more than 300 seasonal jobs spread throughout the year. This represents, according to him, a real opportunity for the local workforce and a boost for the economy of the province of Taounate.

Mr. El Missouri also highlighted the complex but fruitful journey that led to this inauguration.

“Since the legalization of cannabis, we have worked tirelessly to obtain all the necessary authorizations. Our activities began in 2023, thanks to a collective effort involving ANRAC, local authorities, the Directorate of Medicines and Pharmacy, ONSSA and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry,” he detailed.

He highlighted the pardon that His Majesty King Mohammed VI was kind enough to grant, on the occasion of the anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People, to people convicted, prosecuted or wanted in cases related to the cultivation of cannabis, which brought great relief to farmers and encouraged them to join this project.

“We are receiving many requests for participation, which demonstrates the hope raised by this new legal sector. Our ambition is to make this plant a model of success, benefiting the entire region and beyond,” he stressed.

It should be recalled that as part of the efforts made to guarantee quality processing that complies with standards, ANRAC had implemented a series of measures, ranging from strengthening controls to expanding opportunities for local farmers, through support for investors and a significant investment in training for industry players. The aim is to make this inauguration a real springboard for the economic development of the region and the country.
