Tap water could take on a funny color, and that’s okay

by time news

The inhabitants of the Etretat sector (Seine-Maritime) could have a surprise by opening their water tap from this Monday. The liquid could indeed change color. Nothing to worry about. This is a colorimetric tracing operation carried out by Le Havre Seine Métropole to better understand the flow of groundwater in the sector, reports France 3 Normandy.

This operation makes it possible to study groundwater flow by injecting a fluorescent dye into the ground to observe where the colored water emerges. The product used is harmless to humans and the environment. The purpose of this study is the protection of drinking water boreholes.

If ever the dye is detected, then actions can be taken to protect the drinking water table. The tracing operation will take place upstream of the various boreholes that supply the homes in the Etretat sector. Due to the geology of the affected area, experts consider that there is little chance that tap water will be colored among locals.
