Acting Chairman of BNP, Tariq Rahman urged the interim government to take effective measures to prevent river erosion including carrying out relief and rescue activities in the flood-affected areas.

On Monday (September 30), senior joint secretary general of the party, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, made this call in a statement sent to the media.

The statement said that large areas of Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Kurigram and Gaibandha districts along Teesta river were inundated due to intermittent heavy rains and torrential downpours. The waters of the rivers of that region, including the Teesta, are flowing over the boundary. Almost lakhs of people have become housebound due to this sudden flood. Flood affected people are living in extreme misery. Uneasiness and fear prevails among people in the area. Roads, crops are submerged in water.

Tariq Rahman said, I request the leaders, activists and supporters of BNP and its affiliates and affiliated organizations in the flood-affected and surrounding districts to actively come forward with full support to the flood victims. At the same time, I urge the interim government to quickly take effective measures to prevent river erosion, including carrying out relief and rescue operations in flood-affected areas.
