Taroudant Province: Students return to school in earthquake-hit areas

To this end, tents, equipped with the necessary educational materials, have been set up to enable students in the affected areas to resume their studies in good conditions.

In Tizi N’test, one of the municipalities most affected by the earthquake, the director of the Regional Academy of Education and Training (AREF) of Sous-Massa, Ouafaa Chakir, inquired, at the level of the Youssef Ibn Tachfin school group, about the conditions for welcoming students and the measures taken to support them.

In a statement to MAP, Ms. Chakir affirmed that the first step taken by AREF following the earthquake was to identify losses among students and teachers, in addition to diagnosing the state of schools.

And to add that the Academy has put in place a plan to remedy this situation, ensure the schooling of students and guarantee educational continuity. It is also about supporting students in order to help them overcome the difficult ordeal they have endured, through schools, activities and the supervision of the teaching staff.

Ms. Chakir stressed that 100 social and psychological support staff have been trained to assist students in these difficult circumstances, adding that these staff will be deployed to the municipalities affected by the earthquake, in order to support teachers in carrying out scheduled activities.

The director of AREF of Souss-Massa noted that all efforts at the level of the regional Academy are concentrated on the province of Taroudant at the moment, welcoming the enormous work accomplished by all the teams mobilized for this purpose.

As part of the efforts made by the AREF of Souss-Massa to overcome the effects of the earthquake, Ms. Chakir reported the mobilization of 35 executives, including architects, engineers, design firms and control offices, to assess the situation, in addition to the establishment of a team at the level of the provincial directorate of Taroudant, responsible for planning and the school map for the redeployment of students.

Approached by MAP, several students expressed their joy at returning to school but also at seeing their friends and teachers again.
