B.N. Palayam: A tarred road with a garbage bin has been constructed on Vellamadai Annoor Main Road near Periyanayakanpalayam which has created a lot of excitement.
A new tar road was laid yesterday for a distance of one km near Vellamadai Adi Dravidar Colony on Annur Main Road, Vellamaita Panchayat under Sarkar Chamakulam Union.
The fact that the National Highways Department has constructed a tarred road without even removing the garbage bin placed on the side of the road has caused a great stir.
Officials of the National Highways Department said about this, ‘The drinking water pipe goes to the garbage bin placed on the side of the road. Due to the leakage, a deep hole has formed in the area.
This pit has been there for the past one year. A garbage bin is placed there so that no pedestrians fall into it. Even approaching many local administration and drinking water project officials to remove the garbage bin and repair the drinking water pipe to no avail.
We could not find out which project the water pipe was for and whose. We could not undertake this work as the leakage could only be fixed by stopping the water supply.
If the pipe leak is fixed and the hole is covered, we will build a tar road in the vacant place,’ they said.
