Colombo Strikers played by Taskin Ahmed and Kandy Falcons played by Shariful met on Saturday in the Lankan Premier League. Colombo beat Kandy by just 2 runs in a hard fought match.
In Dambulla, Colombo batted first and scored 199 for 9 thanks to Glenn Phillips’ innings of 70 runs. In reply, Kandy stopped at 197 after losing 8 wickets.
With the bat of Andre Fletcher, Mohammad Haris, Kamindu Mendis and Angelo Mathews, Kandy were on track to win the run chase. But Mathisha Pathirana bowled brilliantly to snatch the match.
Pathirana took 4 wickets with 26 runs in 4 overs. Taskin Ahmed took 1 wicket with 30 runs in 4 overs. Shadab Khan took 1 wicket with 21 runs in 3 overs.
Kandy’s Harris scored 56 runs in 32 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes. Fletcher scored 47 runs with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Kamindu scored 36 with 2 fours and 4 sixes and Mathews scored 33 runs with 4 fours and 2 sixes from 14 balls.
Before that, Colombo’s Glenn Phillips played an impeccable innings of 70 runs in 43 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Angelo Perera scored 38 runs off 23 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Besides, Shadab scored 23 runs and Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 20 runs.
Dushmanthe Chamira took 3 wickets with 40 runs in 4 overs. Shariful Islam took 2 wickets with 43 runs in 4 overs and Wanindu Hasaranga took 2 wickets with 37 runs in 4 overs.
Man of the match was Pathirana who took 4 wickets.
With this win, Colombo has won 2 out of 3 matches and is at the top of the table with 4 points. Kandy is in fourth place with 2 points from equal matches.
