The production of the first ammunition load of Poseidon nuclear supertorpedoes for the Belgorod nuclear submarine (NPS) has been completed, TASS reported, citing a source close to the Defense Ministry.
“The first Poseidons ammunition has been made, the Belgorod submarine will receive them in the near future,” he said. According to TASS, the first separate tests of the main Poseidon units were successful.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense announced that the Belgorod research submarine will become the carrier of Poseidon unmanned attack underwater systems. In February 2019, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced its successful sea testing.
The Belgorod submarine was launched in April 2019 and handed over to the Navy in July 2022. The first information about the nuclear underwater drone “Poseidon” appeared in 2015, in March 2018, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed its development.
