This is the second time in the last six months that Hyundai has lost its No. 2 spot to Tata Motors. In December 2021, Hyundai recorded the lowest sales. Back then, it dropped to 3rd place in the list of 10 car manufacturers. Now, it has dropped to 3rd place again in May. Tata Motors is ahead by a good margin of 1,048 units compared to Hyundai.
Hyundai sales grow 67%
Hyundai Motor sold 42,293 cars and SUVs in the domestic market last May. This is an increase of 69.17 per cent year-on-year. During the same month, the company’s exports increased by 57.31 per cent to 8,970 units from 5,702 units in May 2021. A total of 51,263 units (domestic exports) were sold in May 2022. Sales have increased by 66.96% this year.
Tata sales up 185%
Tata Motors sold 43,341 cars in the passenger vehicle segment in May 2022. It has increased by 185% year on year. The company had delivered 15,181 cars in the same month last year, selling 39,887 ICE passenger vehicles in May 2022. It was 14,705 units in the same month last year. Sales of the company’s electric vehicles increased by 626% to 3,454 units.
