TATA Motors is the No. 1 electric car, beating the biggest establishments. – Tata Nexon EV leads electric vehicle sales in India in September 2022

The trend of electric cars in India is gradually increasing. Mass production of electric vehicles could lower costs even further. In terms of sales, electric car sales in September 2022 stood at 3,419 units, showing a growth of 172% year-on-year and 5.62% month-on-month.

Tata continues to be the number 1 passenger vehicle brand in India. With the launch of the Tiago EV, Tata Motors has expanded its 4W EV portfolio. With a market share of 82.80%, Tata Motors is leading the 4W EV revolution in the country. Nexon EV Prime, Nexon EV Max and Tigor EV combined sold 2,831 units registering 217.02 percent year-on-year growth and 2.39 percent month-on-month growth. These gains are higher than the 893 units sold in September 2021 and 2,765 units sold in August 2022.

Tata’s volume gain was 1,938 units year-on-year and month-on-month growth of 66 units. When Tiago EV deliveries start in 2023, Tata’s 4W EV sales may take a new high. The MG ZS EV is in second place. It sold 280 units last month as against 327 units in the previous month and registered a decline of 14.37 percent and 11.39 percent month-on-month. MG ZS EV’s market share is 9.76 percent.

Mahindra eVerito sales have been going strong with 112 units sold last month, 19 units in the same time last year and 17 units a month ago. eVerito recorded a year-on-year growth of 489.47 percent and a month-on-month growth of 558.82 percent. The market share increased from 0.53 percent to 3.28 percent in August 2022.

The Hyundai Kona EV is in fourth place with 74 units sold in September 2022, 7 units sold last year and only 73 units sold last month. The Kona EV saw a year-on-year growth of 957.14% at 67 units and a month-on-month growth of 1.37 percent. If the BYD e6 is sold as PV and CV, the sales growth will be visible. Last year BYD e6 failed to sell 1 unit, in August 2022 it managed to sell 45 units. However, sales last month stood at 63 units, a growth of 40 percent month-on-month.

The BMW EV along with the IX and i4 managed to sell 27 units and saw a growth of 8% over the 25 units sold a month ago. Porsche Taycan sold 13 units and registered a month-on-month growth of 85.71% from 7 units sold in August 2022. Audi e-tron sold 10 units. With sales of 6 units in September 2021 and 14 units in August 2022, Audi recorded a decline of 66.67 percent year-on-year and 28.57 percent month-on-month.
