Tax cooperation: Younes Idrissi Kaitouni elected to the UN Special Intergovernmental Committee
Rabat – The Director General of Taxes, Younes Idrissi Kaitouni, was elected to represent the African continent at the Bureau of the Special Intergovernmental Committee of the United Nations (UN) responsible for tax cooperation, announced the Directorate General of Taxes ( DGI).
“Mr. Idrissi Kaitouni was elected to serve on the Bureau of the UN Special Intergovernmental Committee on Tax Cooperation, as representative of the African continent alongside senior officials from three other African states (Egypt, Ghana and Kenya) “, indicated the DGI in a press release.
This election is part of the establishment of new UN bodies for the strengthening of international tax cooperation, and comes in recognition of the place occupied by Morocco on the African and international scene and the role of the DGI in promoting international tax cooperation.
And to emphasize that on November 22, 2023, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution entitled “Promotion of inclusive and effective international tax cooperation within the United Nations”, initiated by Nigeria, on behalf of the group of African States members of the United Nations.
This resolution calls for the development of a UN framework convention which would describe the fundamental postulates of international tax cooperation.
