Tax Evasion: Shakira Will Be Prosecuted | Pop star Shakira

Barcelona ∙ A court in Spain has allowed Colombian pop singer Shakira (45) to be tried in a tax fraud case. A trial date has not been set.

The case alleges that Shakira did not pay tax of 1.45 crore Euros (approximately Rs 113 crore) on her income earned in 2012-14. Prosecutors are seeking up to 8 years in prison and a fine if found guilty of tax evasion.

However, Shakira denied the allegation. Her attorney said she paid $2.8 million in interest in addition to the amount owed.
