BRASILIA (Reuters) – The rapporteur for the tax reform in the Senate, Eduardo Braga (MDB-AM), defended this Monday that a “lock” be incorporated for the tax burden in relation to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

For the rapporteur, who participated in an event of the group of business leaders, Lide, the lock should be included in his opinion of the Proposal for Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) of the reform so that it can be incorporated into the constitutional text.

Last week, the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), defended a ceiling for the rate to be unified after the approval of the reform and stated that this was the rapporteur’s idea.

The proposal was immediately considered complicated by the extraordinary secretary for tax reform at the Ministry of Finance, Bernard Appy, pointing to the risks of limiting the rate creating fiscal problems for the Union, states and municipalities.

This Monday, at the same event in Braga, Pacheco reaffirmed his position, although he recognized that it does not have the endorsement of the Ministry of Finance.
