Taxes: last hours to declare your real estate

There are only a few hours left to file your taxes. After having obtained more than a month of rab, since the deadline was initially scheduled for June 30, taxpayers must now finalize their declarations of real estate on the site impots.gouv.fr. Deadline: today, at midnight.

So if you have not yet validated the information that the tax services must have concerning your properties (house, apartment, permanent swimming pool, basement, garage, etc.), you still have a little time to tackle it. The site is still under maintenance. But that’s only for documentation, news, and form downloads. As a result, it is still technically possible to make a declaration, if it has not already been done. On June 30, only two-thirds of owners had fulfilled their new tax obligation.

On the tax site, each owner must indicate for each of his properties his situation: if it is empty, in what capacity he occupies it himself or decline the identity of a possible tenant. Latecomers are liable to a fine of 150 euros, but “as this is a new procedure”, the Directorate General of Public Finance will show “benevolence” and “no penalty will be applied this year”.

A campaign and many problems

But this declaration campaign was not without difficulties. She had three postponements. A situation that has certainly taken many taxpayers by surprise.

The deadline had already been postponed for the first time at the end of June by a month, from June 30 to July 31, the Ministry of the Economy then invoking “the influx of declarations”, then a second time by only 24 hours, from June 31 July to August 1, due to a problem accessing the tax website. And finally, from August 1st to 10th. Blame it on a computer malfunction.

The obligation to declare real estate for residential use came into force on January 1 in order to identify the premises still liable for the residence tax. This was abolished for all main residences in 2023, but remains liable for secondary residences.
