According to NBR, the National Board of Revenue is determined to create a taxpayer-friendly, transparent and accountable tax administration. For this purpose e-return system has been upgraded for online return filing of tax year 2024-25 by individual tax payers in light of Income Tax Act, 2023 and Finance Act, 2024. Individual tax payers using e-return system prepare their own returns, file returns online or take printouts for offline filing returns, pay taxes through online banking, credit card or debit card or mobile financial services (Cash, Bikash, Rocket etc.) Get instant proof of filing, income tax payment certificate and TIN certificate, copy of e-return filed for previous tax year, print/download proof of return filing. TIN and biometric verified mobile number in taxpayer’s own name will be required to register in this system.

Note that after the National Board of Revenue launched this system in 2021, 61 thousand 491 taxpayers filed e-returns in fiscal year 2021-22, 2 lakh 44 thousand 481 taxpayers in fiscal year 2022-23 and 5 lakh 26 thousand 487 taxpayers in fiscal year 2023-24.
