In the Arthur Ashe Stadium, American Fritz won in five sets against his compatriot and will define the last Grand Slam of the year against Sinner, the number one in the world.
Fritz defeated Tiafoe and is in the US Open final
Taylor Fritz defeated Frances Tiafoe in the all-American match held at the Arthur Ashe Stadium and made it to the final of the US Open 2024, the last Grand Slam of the season.
Fritz managed to turn the match around to win in five sets with scores of 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, and 6-1 and will play his first Grand Slam final against the Italian Jannik Sinner, the world number one, who defeated the British Jack Draper in the first semifinal with scores of 7-5, 7-6, and 6-2.
Tiafoe, on the other hand, had already reached this stage in the US Open 2022 when he fell to the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.
Fritz had started the tournament very solidly, defeating Argentine Camilo Ugo Carabelli in three sets (7-5, 6-1, and 6-2), while in the second round he overcame Italian Matteo Berrettini also without dropping a set (6-3, 7-6, and 6-1).
On the third day, the American faced another Argentine, in this case, Francisco Comesaña, whom he eliminated with a decisive 6-3, 6-4, and 6-2; already in the round of 16 he met Casper Ruud, who managed to take a set from him before losing 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, and 6-2.
Meanwhile, in his last appearance in the quarter-finals, Fritz defeated German Alexander Zverev in a tough match that was decided in four sets with scores of 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, and 7-6.
