Taylor Simone Ledward-Boseman has fired back against a lawsuit brought by late actor Chadwick Boseman’s brothers, calling the legal challenge a smear campaign. Since the Black Panther
star died without a will, the bitter estate dispute has escalated into a public conflict over millions in assets and residuals.
Taylor Simone Ledward-Boseman Fires Back at Brothers’ Lawsuit
The legal battle surrounding Chadwick Boseman’s estate intensified when his widow filed court documents in Los Angeles countering allegations made by his two older brothers, Derrick and Kevin Boseman. The brothers, acting on behalf of their ailing parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman, petitioned the court to remove Taylor Simone as the administrator of the estate, claiming she failed to properly distribute assets under a 2022 court order.
Ledward-Boseman’s legal team fiercely rejected the claims, categorizing the legal action as a public-relations stunt to smear her in the tabloid press. Her attorney, Adam Streisand, defended her management of the inheritance.
“Simone has not only complied with the Order, but as a product solely of her own extraordinary generosity, she has gone well beyond what was required of her.”

According to the court filings, Boseman died without a will on August 28, 2020, following a private, years-long battle with colon cancer at age 43. Under California law governing intestate estates, Ledward-Boseman inherited 50% of the estate, while each of the actor’s parents was entitled to a 25% share.
The Money Trail: Bank Accounts, Residuals, and a Blocked IRA
The new court documents put the spotlight on the exact financial breakdown of the estate. Ledward-Boseman maintains that she has distributed all of the assets of Chadwick’s Estate save one account that was blocked by the brothers’ own prior legal maneuvering.

The verified assets listed in the filing include bank accounts, shares of Chadwick Boseman, Inc., a life insurance policy, and unclaimed property.
- A Bank of America account holding $151,558
- 100 shares of Chadwick Boseman, Inc. valued at $3,396,969
- A $40,000 life insurance policy
- Another bank account with $241,180.75
- Unclaimed property valued at $0.88
An individual retirement account valued at roughly $300,000 remains undistributed because Ledward-Boseman asserts that the brothers’ previous legal actions froze the funds. Court paperwork reveals that she voluntarily gifted more than $300,000 of her personal funds to Derrick’s four children. Additional filings note that the estate received approximately $300,000 in SAG-AFTRA residual payments, out of which Ledward-Boseman paid $75,000 to each brother at their parents’ request for the 2020 to 2024 period.
While Ledward-Boseman asserts that these figures demonstrate transparency and care, the brothers maintain their parents have sought clarity for years and argue that the remaining 50% split intended for Leroy and Carolyn has not been fully realized as expected.
Clashing Over Legacy Projects
The tension extends beyond past finances into how the late actor’s creative legacy is managed.

Unresolved Legal Questions and the Path Ahead
They also sought to hold her in contempt regarding the 2022 distribution order.
As the Los Angeles court reviews the competing claims, the core disagreement hinges on whether a grieving widow’s voluntary financial gifts and compliance with court directives satisfy the estate’s obligations, or if the brothers’ demands for independent administration and closer financial oversight are warranted. With the court case actively pending, neither side has backed down from their interpretation of the late actor’s final wishes.
