Blake Lively’s Texts to Taylor Swift Detail Allegations Against Director Justin Baldoni

A series of text messages between Blake Lively and Taylor Swift have surfaced as part of Lively’s legal battle with director Justin Baldoni, revealing the actress’s candid descriptions of Baldoni and her attempts to seek Swift’s input on a revised script for the film It Ends With Us. The exchanges, detailed in court documents obtained by E! News on January 20, offer a glimpse into the escalating tensions surrounding the production and Lively’s accusations of sexual harassment and retaliation.

According to the filings, Lively sent multiple texts to Swift regarding Baldoni, who denies all accusations against him. In one conversation, Lively referred to Baldoni as her “doofus director” and a “clown” while requesting the Grammy winner review a revised version of the script, adapted from the Colleen Hoover novel. Lively explained in a July deposition, also obtained by E! News, that she sent the script to Swift because the singer was en route to Lively’s apartment for a meeting with Baldoni.

Swift’s response, as documented in the court filings, was a supportive, “I’ll do anything for you!!”

Lively later expressed her gratitude to Swift, informing her that she had recounted the entire situation to her husband, Ryan Reynolds. “You were so epically heroic today,” Lively texted, according to the documents. “I recapped every moment to Ryan. I kept remembering stuff—You making s–t up about me and lenses. And referring to yourself as my doll. This clown falling for all of it. But also resisting it.” She concluded, “You are the worlds absolute greatest friend ever.”

During her July deposition, Lively clarified that she had told Swift she was under no obligation to read the script. However, in the January 20 filing, Lively argued that she framed the request this way to avoid putting any pressure on her friend. “I sent Taylor the script on her way to my apartment because Justin was still there, and I asked her to read them,” Lively stated in the deposition. “I told her she didn’t have to, I didn’t want her to feel pressured to do that, but I hoped that she would.” Representatives for Lively and Baldoni have not responded to requests for comment from E! News. A spokesperson for Swift also declined to comment.

This is not the first instance of Swift’s name appearing in connection with Lively’s legal dispute with Baldoni. The director previously alleged that Lively leveraged her friendship with Swift to gain greater creative control over It Ends With Us.

In a now-dismissed countersuit, Baldoni presented text messages from Lively in which she likened herself to Emilia Clarke’s Game of Thrones character, Khaleesi, and described Swift and Reynolds as her “dragons.” “For better or worse, but usually for better,” Lively wrote in the 2025 filing. “Because my dragons also protect those I fight for. So really we all benefit from those gorgeous monsters of mine. you will too, I can promise you.”

In response to these allegations, a representative for Swift firmly denied any involvement in the film’s production beyond contributing her song “My Tears Ricochet” to the soundtrack. “Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie,” the spokesperson stated in a May statement. “She was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film.”

The surfacing of these text messages coincides with the announcement of the track list for Taylor Swift’s upcoming album, Life of a Showgirl, with fans immediately focusing on the sixth track, titled “Ruin the Friendship.” The timing has fueled speculation about potential connections between the song and Lively’s ongoing legal battle, though no direct link has been confirmed.
