Taylor Swift’s Private Messages Exposed in Blake Lively’s Legal Battle
A breach of privacy has left Taylor Swift feeling “exposed and violated” after private text messages exchanged with Blake Lively were revealed as part of Lively’s ongoing legal dispute with director Justin Baldoni. The messages, made public earlier this month, detail a close friendship and Swift’s willingness to support Lively during a difficult time.
“The truth is that it has been very difficult for Taylor,” a source revealed. “Having her messages posted made her feel exposed and, in a way, violated, like something private was suddenly no longer hers. That doesn’t sit well with her.”
The controversy stems from a lawsuit filed by Lively, 38, against Baldoni, 41, in late 2024, alleging sexual harassment and defamation. Baldoni has strongly denied the accusations. Court documents released by a judge included a series of text messages between Lively and Swift, offering a glimpse into their private conversations surrounding the case.
In April 2023, Lively reportedly reached out to Swift, 36, seeking assistance. “Can you do me a big favor? I need help with him,” Lively texted, requesting Swift to engage with Baldoni regarding his film, It Ends With Us. Lively asked Swift to express enthusiasm for the movie and book, while subtly addressing concerns about the script. Swift reportedly responded she would “do anything” for her friend.
Further messages revealed Lively’s effusive praise for Swift following what was described as a tense confrontation with Baldoni at Lively’s residence. “You were incredibly heroic today,” Lively wrote, adding, “I told Ryan every moment…You are, absolutely, the best friend in the world. I won the lottery.” Swift playfully responded, “I WON THE LOTTERY. You’re the coolest person in the world and you like me!”
In a December 2024 message, Swift allegedly expressed skepticism about Baldoni’s public persona, writing, “I think this little guy knows something is coming because he took out his little violin,” alongside a link to a People article detailing Baldoni’s claims of past trauma.
According to sources, Swift’s intention was solely to offer support to Lively. “She wasn’t trying to get involved or do anything bigger, she was just supporting Blake as a friend, in what she thought was a private moment,” the source explained. “Now, it’s become all this stuff she didn’t ask for.” A separate source confirmed that Swift is “obviously not happy” about the public disclosure of her private communications.
The friendship between Swift and Lively dates back to 2016, with Lively even naming Swift the godmother to her children. Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, share four children. Baldoni, however, alleged in court filings that Lively leveraged her friendship with Swift in an attempt to exert control over It Ends With Us.
Swift’s representatives swiftly refuted these claims in a statement released to Us Weekly in May 2025. “Taylor Swift was never on the set of this film, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not compose the soundtrack…,” the statement read. “Her only connection to this film was allowing the use of a song, ‘My Tears Ricochet’. This subpoena is intended to use Taylor Swift’s name to attract public attention.”
The situation highlights the potential consequences of private communications becoming public during legal proceedings, and the collateral damage that can extend to those connected to the individuals involved. While Swift’s friendship with Lively has reportedly faced strain as a result of the lawsuit, the incident underscores the complexities of navigating personal relationships amidst high-profile legal battles.
