Taylor Swift ran the equivalent of “like eight miles” during each performance of her record-breaking Eras Tour, and the pop star is now revealing just how grueling the preparation was to sustain that level of energy for over three hours on stage.

The Grueling Prep Behind the Eras Tour

Swift details the intense physical training required for her ambitious concert series.

  • To prepare for the Eras Tour, Swift ran on a treadmill while singing every song on the setlist.
  • The singer admitted she’d never worked out so much in her life, calling it “horrible.”
  • Despite her dislike of training, Swift acknowledged its necessity for the physically demanding show.

Before The End of an Era docuseries debuted for streaming subscribers on December 23, Swift explained that she would run on a treadmill and sing through the entire set list to build stamina. The series offers a behind-the-scenes look at her preparation, including footage of her workouts and candid reflections on the process.

There are a lot of things that we pulled off on this tour that I’ve never even attempted on past tours. I think the longest show I ever did before was 2 hours and 15 minutes. I never would’ve believed you if you would’ve told me we’d be doing a three and a half hour show. Now, saying that is one thing. Doing that, physically, is another. I’ve never worked out this much in my life. It’s horrible.

Swift confessed she wasn’t a fan of the training regimen, but understood its importance. “You just don’t want them to see you panting,” she said, highlighting the need to maintain a polished performance even during the most strenuous parts of the show.

I really had to up my game in terms of physical training. Six months ahead of my first rehearsal, running on the treadmill every single day at the tempo of the songs that I was playing while singing them out loud.

The docuseries also features Swift working with her trainer, Kirk Myers, and her less-than-enthusiastic reaction to certain exercises. During a pull-up session, she quipped, “In no way do I ever apply this at any point in the show. Just wanna flag that as I do every time I have to do pull-ups.”

Strong dislike. Two thumbs down.

She even joked that her ability to perform pull-ups stemmed from “all the pent-up rage and resentment” she felt towards the exercise. Despite her aversion to the workouts, Swift acknowledged the positive results.

The dedication paid off, resulting in a critically acclaimed and commercially successful tour that created lasting memories for both Swift and her fans.
