Tino Piontek, who became known under the stage name Purple Disco Machine, is one of the few German DJs to have a Grammy Award. In 2023, the musician from Dresden was honored with the award for his remix of Lizzo’s track “About Damn Time”. US superstar Taylor Swift also wanted to work with Tino Piontek – but was turned down.

“I’m not a Swiftie”
On “Riverboat,” the 44-year-old confirmed that he once turned down a request from the singer. “I’m not a Swiftie,” he admitted. That’s what the fans of the 34-year-old songwriter call themselves. The reason for the rejection was as follows: It was important to him that he could produce something from the original product and that it suited him. “But her music, which I have absolutely nothing against, was too far removed from what I do,” explained the DJ, adding: “I didn’t feel like the two of us could do anything together.”
But he doesn’t ultimately rule out a future collaboration with Taylor Swift: “I didn’t say it was forever.” The chance will come again, claimed Tino Piontek.
The Dresden native worked with stars like Kylie Minogue. With the Australian-British singer he created a remix of her song “Magic”.
