A candid conversation with her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, on the “New Heights” podcast offered Taylor Swift a platform to discuss her personal life, professional triumphs, and future projects, captivating fans worldwide. The episode, released Wednesday and hosted by Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce, marked the couple’s first extensive joint media appearance.
A Whirlwind Romance & A Modern-Day Serenade
Swift playfully credited the podcast with a significant personal outcome, stating, “This podcast did a lot for me. It gave me a boyfriend!” The relationship began after Kelce attempted to connect with Swift during her Eras Tour stop in Kansas City, Missouri, in 2023. He shared on the podcast that he’d crafted a friendship bracelet with his phone number, hoping to pass it to her, but was unsuccessful. Swift described the gesture as incredibly romantic, evoking a scene from an 1980s film. “It made me feel like I was in an ’80s John Hughes movie, and he was just like, standing outside of my window with a boom box being like, ‘I want to date you,’” she recounted.
Reclaiming Her Musical Legacy
Beyond the blossoming romance, Swift detailed a monumental achievement: regaining ownership of the master recordings of her first six studio albums. She explained that owning her music was a long-held ambition, stemming from her initial record deal at age 15. The process involved negotiations with Shamrock Capital, the private equity firm that previously held the masters.
“A couple months after the Super Bowl in Kansas City, I get a call from my mom,” Swift shared, vividly describing the moment she learned of the successful acquisition. “She’s like, ‘You got your music.’ I very dramatically hit the floor for real. Bawling my eyes out, weeping, like ‘Really!?’” She recounted sharing the news with Kelce, who was playing video games at the time. “I was like, ‘I got my music back!’ And I was heaving crying. This changed my life.” Kelce echoed her sentiment, expressing his joy for the singer. “I just started crying, too,” he said. “I was just so happy for you.”
“The Life of a Showgirl” & The Art of the Easter Egg
Swift also unveiled details about her upcoming 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” announcing it on her website at 12:12 a.m. Tuesday and revealing the cover art on Wednesday. The album is slated for release on October 3.
Known for embedding hidden messages – or Easter eggs – within her work, Swift clarified her approach to these fan-favorite clues. She emphasized that these Easter eggs will no longer relate to her personal life. “I have parameters. There’s do’s and dont’s,” she explained. “It points to my music… It’s something you don’t know why I’m saying for a specific reason, but then you’ll look back and go, ‘Oh my God.'”
She recently employed this tactic with the descending orange door featured during the finale of her Eras Tour, after the song “Karma.” Swift revealed the door symbolized both the end of the Eras Tour era and the beginning of a new chapter. “Basically the reason why I chose to exit that way is because I kind of wanted to give a little subliminal hint to the fans that I may be leaving the Eras Tour era, but I was also entering a new era.” She further elaborated that the new album was developed while she was touring Europe. Kelce playfully added, “Literally living the life of a showgirl!”
