After the concert cancellations due to the terror threat in Vienna, Taylor Swift was back on stage in London – and not alone: she brought a colleague along.
After three cancelled concerts due to a foiled terrorist attack in Vienna, Taylor Swift returned to the stage in London yesterday evening, Thursday, August 15. At Wembley Stadium, the pop star played the first of five more concerts in front of an audience of around 92,000 people – and got some very special support on stage.
While Swift was performing the guitar section of her “Surprise Songs,” which are part of every show on the Eras Tour, singer Ed Sheeran suddenly joined her on stage with his own guitar. Together they sang a mash-up of three songs: Swift’s “Everything Has Changed” and “End Game,” as well as Sheeran’s hit “Thinking Out Loud.”
As seen in a video shared on the X platform, Swift gushed about her colleague and their friendship on stage, introducing Sheeran as her “second brother.”
While this is not the first time Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran have appeared on stage together, it is the first time in several years. Over the years, the two have recorded several songs together, including “Everything Has Changed” for the 2021 album “Red (Taylor’s Version)” and Sheeran’s song “The Joker and the Queen” from 2022.
There were also a number of stars among the more than 90,000 Swifties. Actor Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina were among those seen in the crowd, as well as YouTube star Amelia Dimoldenberg, actress Ambika Mod and presenter Jameela Jamil.
For Taylor Swift, Thursday evening’s show was the fourth concert in London since the start of her Eras Tour. The singer had already played three sold-out shows in the British capital in June. Yesterday’s and the four other concerts mark the end of the European leg of her tour, which has been running since March 2023. Afterwards, she will return to North America for more concerts.
At the same time, the performance was the first since Swift’s three concerts in Austria’s capital Vienna had to be cancelled last week due to an increased threat of terrorism. The authorities had arrested several young people beforehand who had apparently planned a terrorist attack on the concerts. Taylor Swift has not yet commented on the cancelled shows, and the singer did not say a word about it on stage in London either.
