According to Vote.org, a non-profit, non-partisan organization, Swift’s post led to over 35,000 first-time voter registrations on their site. Additionally, 50,000 people confirmed that they were already registered. CEO Andrea Hailey expressed her gratitude to Swift, calling her a champion of the democratic process.
The impact of Swift’s call to action extended beyond just new registrations. Compared to last year, there was a 115% increase in 18-year-old registrants, indicating that her message reached and resonated with a younger demographic. In total, over 1.3 million people visited the Vote.org site through Swift’s post.
Nick Morrow, the communications director for Vote.org, commented on the surge in traffic, revealing that the site was averaging 13,000 users every 30 minutes. He also acknowledged Swift’s reputation as a mastermind, attributing the numbers to her influential power.
This is not the first time Swift has used her platform to encourage political engagement. In 2018, she publicly supported Tennessee’s Democratic Senate candidate Phil Bredesen while criticizing his Republican opponent, Marsha Blackburn, for her positions on LGBTQ rights and the Violence Against Women Act. Since then, Swift has consistently urged her fans to vote and make their voices heard.
Earlier this year, she even encouraged residents of Nashville to participate in the city’s contentious mayoral election. Swift led by example, sharing a selfie wearing an ‘I voted today’ sticker on her Instagram Stories.
