This special Air India flight carrying the Indian team from Barbados to Delhi has been named AIC24WC (Air India Champions 24 World Cup). The plane took off at around 4:50 am Barbados time and will reach Delhi at around 6:20 am Indian time on Thursday.

The Boeing 777 plane, which took off from New Jersey in the US on July 2, arrived in Barbados at about 2 am local time and airport staff said they had never seen a larger plane land at Grantley Adams International Airport. The airport resumed traffic on Tuesday as Cyclone Beryl passed.

Before the plane took off, Indian captain Rohit Sharma posted a picture with the trophy on Instagram and wrote, ‘Coming home.’ The Indian team, its support staff, the players’ families, some officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and some members of the Indian media are on board the plane. This special flight has been arranged by the BCCI.

Earlier, the Indian team was to leave on July 2 at 6 pm local time and reach at 7:45 pm (Indian time) on Wednesday, but the departure was delayed due to the late arrival of the plane here. Within a few hours of reaching here, the players will be felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. There are also plans to organize a road show in Mumbai in honor of the victorious team that ended the 11-year drought of ICC trophy.
