BOLZANO. Team K of Bressanone, mayors and civic lists of the Isarco and Vizze valleys are joining forces to ask for the introduction of measures that are finally effective in limiting the inconvenience caused by traffic on the Brenner motorway, “now reached an unsustainable level”, they said today at a press conference at the motorway exit in Bressanone Nord.
“The urban centers of the valleys now constantly coexist with smog and noise. A situation that is evidently no longer tolerable, but that despite years of protests has never changed. And as citizens engaged in democratic institutions, we therefore ask for a decisive change of pace, to finally at least limit the problem”, we read in a note.
“These are our proposals: we firmly oppose any proposal to lift the night-time driving ban for trucks – air and noise pollution are already too high today. Instead, we call for the extension of the night-time driving ban for heavy goods vehicles to the entire Euregio Tyrol-Trentino-Alto Adige. We also call for improved monitoring, with measurements and online publication of data on air and noise pollution, and for motorway coverage in sensitive areas and densely populated zones, and noise barriers with the planting of plants that act as air filters.”
“Finally, we ask for exit bans on days of very heavy traffic on the A22, which too often makes the situation catastrophic even on the state road (in particular, when the A22 is saturated between Brennero and Vipiteno, it leads to heavy traffic congestion even in the municipality of Brennero, with enormous inconvenience for residents)”, so Team K, the mayors and the civic lists at the press conference.
