Bae Dong-hyun, head of the Korean delegation to the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games (and chairman of the BDH Foundation), attended the ‘Athletes’ Night’ event on the 7th (local time) and announced that he would be presenting a pure gold medal (20 don) to all athletes and coaches of the 17 events participating in the competition.
The Night of Korea event was attended by approximately 120 key figures related to disabled sports, including Team Manager Bae Dong-hyun, Korea Paralympic Committee President Jeong Jin-wan, and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Second Vice Minister Jang Mi-ran, who encouraged the Korean athletes who performed well at the 17th Paralympic Games held in Paris, France.
This event, held a day before the closing ceremony of the Paris Paralympic Games, took place for two hours, with participants boarding a cruise ship prepared at the 8th arrondissement dock in Paris and viewing Paris’ landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Louvre Museum, along the Seine River.
On this day, Team Leader Bae announced an unconventional reward plan. At the closing ceremony on August 12, Team Leader Bae announced that all athletes who won gold, silver, and bronze medals at the Paris Paralympic Games would be awarded a gold medal specially made with 20 don of pure gold, but at this athletes’ night event, he announced that all athletes and coaches who participated in the competition would be given pure gold medals.
Director Bae said, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Korean athletes who did their best for this competition. It was a great honor to be able to work with our athletes.” He added, “The Paralympics is not just a simple sport, but a great asset to mankind. I will continue to work for the development of disabled sports so that its meaning and value can shine even brighter.” He expressed his thoughts as he concluded the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.
The South Korean team, which aimed to win at least five gold medals at this competition, exceeded its goal by winning six golds, 10 silvers, and 14 bronzes.
