Teatro Olimpico in Rome reopens with comedy, dance and music – Theater

These are the cornerstones on which the new season of the Teatro Olimpico in Rome will start, starting on September 19, with 39 shows on the bill (14 of which are subscription-based). The subscription-based shows will start on October 10 with the new production of Once Upon a Time in Cenerentola, created by the Balletto di Roma in collaboration with the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, starring Marisol Castellanos, a student in the latest edition of Amici. From October 31 to November 3 it will be the turn of Tango. Historias de Astor by and with Miguel Angel Zotto. The Orchestraccia returns to the Olimpico for the third year (November 7-10) with the new show-concert Trattoria Orchestraccia, between folk and rock. From November 14 to 17, the American company Parsons Dance will take to the stage with Balance of Power, with the possibility during the days of the show to participate in a masterclass with David Parsons. Laughs from November 20 to December 1 with Massimo Lopez and Tullio Solenghi in Dove eravamo resti, a tribute to the vaudeville with sketches, imitations and video contributions. “The story of the Trio began in this theater, it’s a bit like our home. Among the sketches, there’s also Mattarella who wants to enter the world of cinema and asks the Pope for a recommendation, played by me”. The unmissable Christmas appointment with the Nutcracker with the International Classic Ballet from December 5 to 8, before the residency taken up by Maurizio Battista (“so as not to stay at home with my wife, I go everywhere”, he jokes), on stage from December 11 to February 16 with MB Show – Il Gran Varietà and its caustic comedy. The title of the new show in national premiere by Lillo and Greg (February 19-March 9) leaves no doubt: MOVIe ERCULeO, dedicated to the world of cinema with – Greg explains – a not too implicit invitation to spectators “to get up from the sofa and go to the theater”. Fausto Brizzi, with Enrico Vanzina and Maurizio Colombi, has staged the musical Sapore di Mare, based on the film that has just celebrated its 40th anniversary (11-23 March). From 26 to 30 March Slava’s Snowshow, which, after many years of absence from the capital, promises to thrill and move spectators once again with circus, prose and dance. From 1 to 13 April Mose Pendleton’s Momix are ready to renew the enchantment of their choreographies. Emiliano Luccisano (14-16 April) has Rivoluzioni Reloaded in store to overwhelm the audience with his biting irony, while from 18 to 20 April Incanti between theatre and illusionism. Pink Floyd Legend (7-11 May) will close the event with a concert event dedicated to the legendary album The Wall. The Olimpico season is also enriched with several unique shows, including Catarina dei Pupazzi (from 19 to 26 September, an adaptation for the younger audience of William Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew); Roberta Bruzzone (4 October) with 10 crime stories; Morricone directs Morricone (5 and 6 October); tributes to Lucio Dalla (11 November), Raffaella Carrà (12 November). Micheal Jackson (13 November), Franco Battiato (3 December); Vittorio Sgarbi with a lecture on the art of the Ventennio (25 February). “In composing a season, the first requirement is to choose a criterion – explained the artistic director of the Teatro Olimpico Lucia Bocca Montefoschi -. This year we have built together shows that can be considered in some way a necklace of precious stones, each with its own light, its own color and its own splendor. Our aim is to offer intelligent entertainment, suited to one’s inclination, varied in its proposals and always excellent in quality. Nothing is more precious than an emotion in the theater”.
