RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) – The Minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet, stated this Thursday that the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, has “tricks up his sleeve” to guarantee the collection of resources, if not all the measures of government interest pass through the National Congress.
The government currently has an important economic agenda in Congress, with the potential to increase revenues and meet the goal of a zero primary result in 2024.
Among the topics of interest to the economic team being discussed in Congress are the tax reform — which the government wants to see enacted this year –, the taxation of sports betting sites — the so-called “bets” — and the provisional measure which changes the collection of taxes in cases of subsidies for investments.
“We have the prospect of significant revenue to reach the zero target and, even if we do not reach the zero target, the Minister of Finance still has other tricks up his sleeve to present from next year onwards,” Tebet told Reuters.
At the same time, the minister thanked Congress for its effort and commitment in discussing matters that could boost government revenue. She demonstrated confidence that the themes will be approved.
“I know the goodwill of the National Congress, but I also know that, when it receives a message from the executive, (it) improves and improves. We just have to thank Congress,” he added.
Asked about the possibility of exchanging the Ministry of Planning and Budget for the Ministry of Justice, due to the departure of minister Flávio Dino to the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Tebet stated that she was not asked or polled about the issue.
The minister participated this Thursday in the meeting between heads of states of Mercosur countries, in Rio de Janeiro.
