Tech freaks: Lossless Audio, Microsoft, Switch, Hue, Spotify, Alexa | Life & Knowledge

by time news

High-tech for the ears: In the weekly podcast “Tech-Freaks”, BILD technology reporters Sven Schirmer and Martin Eisenlauer talk about gadgets, games and the wide Internet.

It remains lossy

Qualcomm introduces the new Bluetooth codec “aptX Lossless”. Already in the name it promises lossless music enjoyment, even without cables. A look at the specifications, however, allows the question: Is there window dressing being practiced here?

Regardless of the fact that this is the umpteenth variant of transmitting audio via Bluetooth, which of course has to be mastered from all sides (player & player), Sven bursts the collar. He is upset that terms like “Lossless” and “HiRes” degenerate into pure marketing vocabulary that fool the user into thinking that something is not really there.

Other topics: Microsoft is showing new products from the Surface family, the Switch is becoming more and more retro, VPN operators are under attack, Alexa is raising her voice and Spotify and Philips Hue are going to the disco.
