Technical control costs 78 euros on average in France, according to a study

by time news

Stable since 2019, this average hides considerable differences, since the price can vary from 45 to 120 euros.

In a period of almost generalized inflation, technical control sees its price stagnate. It amounts to an average of 78.52 euros in France, for private gasoline or diesel vehicles, according to the 2022 barometer of the Simplauto comparator. “Prices have therefore been almost stable since May 2019.“, notes the study. At the time, a technical inspection cost on average 77.62 euros. A price that had soared following the reform of the technical control of May 2018, nevertheless underlines the company.

This average hides extremely significant differences. Simplauto’s analysis, carried out in June and covering more than 5,600 centers, i.e. 86% of those listed in France, shows that the price can vary between 45 euros for the cheapest, 120 euros for the most expensive, for identical services.

Price differences are emerging depending on where the technical control is carried out. By department, it is in Haute-Savoie that motorists will pay their most expensive technical control (99.32 euros on average), followed by Corse-du-Sud (92.80 euros) and Mayotte (90 euros) . Conversely, it is the Loiret which wins the prize for the least expensive technical control (67.14 euros), with the Moselle (68.87 euros) and the Loire (69.39 euros).

Disappearance of the counter-visit offered

By city, the study observes that “the prices are generally higher in the big cities (Paris, Lyon, Marseille, etc.) as well as in certain DOM / TOM“. In Paris, the average price reaches 87.29 euros. But it is Nice that turns out to be the most expensive big city, with an average price of 95.90 euros.

A price to which it is sometimes necessary to add the price of the counter-visit, in the event of defects noted on the vehicle. Because “the practice of “offered counter-visit” has disappeared“, notes the barometer. “Until 2018, it was very common for the counter-visit to be offered, as a commercial gesture. Since then, it has been billed in 98% of centers.“It is now necessary to count on average between 15 and 30 euros for such a service.

This counter-visit turns out to be more and more frequent. Because, from 52 checkpoints when it was created in 1992, the exam now sifts through no less than 145 items. Hence the proliferation of failed vehicles, and dissatisfied motorists. Bikers could soon join them, since two-wheelers over 125 cm3 could soon be subject to a technical inspection, in accordance with a European obligation.
