/ The coach of the Iraqi youth team, Hassan Turki, confirmed on Tuesday that the goal of participating in the West Asian Olympic Team Championship, hosted by the city of Al-Ahsa in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is to prepare for the upcoming competitions.

Turki said in the coaches’ press conference that preceded the start of the tournament, “Our participation is for the technical benefit because we are playing with a squad of players aged 18 and 19 years, while the other teams participate with their Olympic teams for ages under 23 years.”

He added, “It is a positive opportunity for us to participate and compete on the field against strong teams, and our confrontation with the Australian Olympic team will be a preparation station for the upcoming external competitions.”

Turki continued, “The fifth West Asian Championship will be an opportunity to prepare well for the upcoming participations that await us, especially since most of the current youth team players were born in 2005 and 2006 and were grafted onto the previous youth team players,” adding, “We aspire to provide the best in the tournament.”

At eight o’clock in the evening tomorrow, Wednesday, the Iraqi youth team will face the Australian Olympic team at Abdullah bin Jalawi Stadium in the Saudi city of Al-Ahsa.

The tournament is held in a knockout manner, with the winner qualifying for the semi-finals, and the loser playing a match to determine places from fifth to eighth.

The Iraqi youth team will wear the white shirt in front of the Australian Olympic team, which will wear the yellow shirt.
