Technical incident at the Avorbam station: Gab’Oil’s rapid response

DIG/ In a press release published in the daily L’Union, the marketer Gab’Oil announced that a malfunction of distribution equipment caused a spill of fuel on the runway followed by a release of a small volume of hydrocarbons in the public gutter.

Thanks to the implementation of emergency procedures, the incident was completely contained by the company. A know-how that should become a standard.

The Avorbam Gigi de Gab’oil service station carried out a test of the hydrocarbon distribution equipment on Friday, November 17, in order to complete the commissioning process and in preparation for its next inauguration.

Unfortunately, during these operations, and more precisely at 7:50 p.m., a technical incident was recorded due to the malfunction of distribution equipment which caused a spill of fuel on the runway followed by a release of a small volume of hydrocarbons in the public gutter.

This spill caused a certain amount of inconvenience for the immediate residents of the station.

Questioned by the latter, Gab’oil, due to the precautionary principle, indicates that it immediately ceased sales operations and carried out in-depth investigations.

The company informs that it then initiated corrective actions in order to reassure its customers.

This concerns, in particular, the cleaning of the adjoining gutter, the emptying of the hydrocarbon separator, the inspection of all the equipment and the replacement of that deemed defective.

“In accordance with its internal procedures supported by its CSR, Gab’oil has always launched public consultations with residents of areas where station construction is planned in order to establish a climate of trust with residents”indicates a manager.

In addition to the information provided to the supervisory authorities, the state company also requested the General Directorate of Laboratories of the Ministry of Oil in order to take samples throughout the gutter and carry out analyses.

It should, however, be noted that this technical incident is not isolated in the downstream oil industry as several similar cases have already been recorded with other local leaders in the distribution of petroleum products. And this, without the latter having taken the slightest step aimed at quickly circumscribing the problem and discussing with the local populations to reassure them.

“As such, the civic attitude of the Gab’oilL company, whose mission is to support the social action of the State, by making petroleum products available to urban and rural populations, should therefore be encouraged and to be supported in the current context of the transition which advocates patriotic momentum”underlines an informed player in the petroleum product distribution sector.
