Valentine’s Day is close and retail is already projecting 10% growth, according to the National Confederation of Shopkeepers (CNDL). In addition to heating up trade, the date is important for the bar and restaurant sector. It is an opportunity to increase sales, but it can also be a good time to build customer loyalty, and technology is a factor that can help in this process. On the other hand, wrong planning and poor service, when consumer expectations are higher, due to it being a special date, can lead to losses for the establishment.

According to Zucchetti’s commercial director, Marcos Adriano Guasso, the service is the great differential that makes the customer choose a restaurant or bar, especially on commemorative dates.

“There are different consumer profiles and each one is looking for a type of food or place, but for each of them there is a range of restaurants. The choice will involve service, and when I say that, I mean the quality of the food, the location, the fair price and the service, which involves everything from how the customer will be received to how quickly the order will arrive”, he comments. Guasso.

For him, the correct preparation for special dates is essential not only so that the establishment does not lose sales at a time of high, but also because, with high expectations, the consumer can be more impacted by something that does not work out.

“On a normal day, a service problem is bad, but it can be forgotten, overlooked. On a date where dinner is part of the present, something goes wrong will spoil the moment and will certainly mark the customer. There is no way to calculate future losses for the restaurant. This is because the customer could become a recurring customer, but is likely not to return, and could negatively impact other people by telling a bad story about the establishment”, warns the director.

To reduce the possibility of problems, Guasso points out that technology can be an important differentiator, from stock planning to customer service.

“A good software makes the communication between the different stages of the service. It shows how the stock is, preventing product shortages and, when the customer orders at the table, it will only release the order if there are the ingredients to prepare it. The drink order is already sent to the bar, the food order to the kitchen, facilitating service, providing agility, something essential, even more so on a day with a full house”, underlines Guasso.

One point he highlights for technology to bring all these benefits is to pay attention to software maintenance and technical support.

“Imagine in the middle of a date like Valentine’s Day there is a problem and the system is out of order? This will certainly do a lot of harm. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to this factor ”, she emphasizes.

Another benefit of technology is that, with the business organized and functioning in a systematic way, the restaurant owner has more time to think about different actions for the customer.

“There are many possibilities to bring something extra to a special day, from giving a gift to a promotion. It is important that the establishment knows how to stand out on dates so that the consumer returns at other times, thus gaining new recurring customers”, concludes Guasso.
