Technology, key to communication between patients and doctors

The forms of communication between doctors and patients They have changed over the years. Now they are very different from how they were applied decades ago and the main culprit is technology. But, as in other fields, the excess of information is not always positive because it generates an inverse effect.

According to the National Survey on Availability and Use of Information Technologies in Homes of the INEGI, the Mexican spends, on average, five hours a day searching the web.

This means that people are overexposed to data that, on many occasions, may not be reliable, which represents a challenge for health professionals in the sense that they must increasingly find the appropriate way to create a communication link with their patients and share reliable information through the appropriate communication channels.

How has communication between doctors and patients changed?

To contribute to this purpose, Doctoralia presented an initiative of digital talks of only 30 minutes called Health Week: Talks with Experts!where 6 personalities from different areas talked on 3 different days about the best strategies or the diseases of the moment.

In the first talk that was held in June, one of the issues that stood out was which communication channels are effective in informing the population and avoiding misinformation. It was attended by specialists in the field such as Isaac Ochoa, Strategic Partner Manager de YouTube Health Spanish Speaking LATAM. He mentioned that efforts have been made to combat misinformation and create safe spaces for interaction where people find reliable data.

“There is a new way to communicate with society and from YouTube Health we give a voice to whoever provides information with scientific evidence, something very important for us is to give a voice to experts, professionals, universities, academies and international institutions such as the Pan American Health Organization”.

In this sense, it is important that health professionals who are interested in being able to communicate with their patients through technology. They should look at the communication channels available to start creating niche content in a more accessible and secure way.

The role of doctors against fake news

There was also the participation of Mariloli Hinojosa, Health Director, who mentioned the importance of combating misinformation on the web on health issues. To date there is an overexposure of people to a lot of data that, on occasions, can be false or unreliable.

“Health professionals have a fundamental role in the fight against misinformation, so it is very important that they communicate the complex data they handle in a clear and accessible way, in addition to seeking to participate in specialized magazines, conferences or collaborations within important media.”

This, the specialist specified, will help the opinions or information expressed by doctors on the web to provide confidence when issued from reliable sources, such as specialized portals or scientific studies, which will generate trust and loyalty from their patients.
