Teenage girl claiming to be Madeleine McCann apologizes to missing child’s family

Julia Wendell received confirmation earlier this month that she is not Madeleine McCann, the girl who disappeared in 2007. DNA tests also showed that the young woman is 100% Polish and discarded the theory that she was trafficked as a child.

After the verdict, Julia and Fia Johansson, her private investigator, made some statements about the case and said that there are still questions that need to be clarified. Today (12), however, Julia used her networks to make an apology.

In a statement on Instagram, she claims that she never wanted to hurt anyone and that she may have expressed herself badly, as she does not remember claiming to be Madeleine, only speculating about the possibility.

“I don’t remember most of my memories, but I remember some things and I never said I’m Madeleine McCann,” said the young Polish woman.

Julia, however, assumed that the way she chose to give visibility to the case may have been negative. “I used Madeleine’s name to create a username for my old Instagram account, it was my mistake and I know that, I apologize, because I should have posted something like ‘Am I Madeleine McCann?’ instead of just stating it. It was my fault,” she added.

The young woman even explains that all she wanted was to discover the truth about her past. According to the Mirror UK portal, she still does not rule out the possibility of being a missing child.

Despite remaining confused, Julia returned to Poland and discussed her relationship with the private investigator. “When I first met Fia, I thought she wanted to help me. Now I know she just wants new followers, new customers,” she complained.

On her Instagram, Fia regretted that Julia had decided to return to Poland and said she wished the young woman well. “We learned a lot, it’s a much more complex case than it seems.”
