A senior researcher who examined the Iranian drones that were shot down in Ukraine tells ‘Khan News’: Tehran has upgraded the capabilities of the drones that were transferred to Russia. Senior Ukrainians warn: in the end they will reach Israel

Iran is using the war in Ukraine to improve the capabilities of its UAVs – this is what Damian Splitters, a senior researcher from the British “Conflict Armament Research” organization, told Amichai Stein in ‘Khan Haode’ today. The researcher got access to some weapons that Russia used in Ukraine. Among the weapons was the UAV “Iranian water-type Shahad 136 that was shot down by the Ukrainians. In a special interview here, Space News splits the improvements the Iranians have made to UAVs.

“There is a central explosive charge and around it another 18 small charges, designed to cause an impact effect in a 360-degree radius,” explains the researcher. “They also added to the drones shrapnel that would damage electric cables and the building itself to cause as much damage as possible and damage the ability to repair the damaged factory or building.”

According to the report, the investigative team does not know whether the Iranians enhanced it specifically for the Russians. But the improved version of the UAV suits the Russians’ goals, which are: hitting power plants, infrastructure and vital facilities across Ukraine. The current UAV is much more lethal now. The UAVs have been improved, so they can also fly more freely and bypass obstacles, such as GPS jams.

After the publication of the investigation, senior Ukrainian officials told ‘Khan Havod’ that this is the reason why Israel needs to increase aid to Ukraine. The adviser to the Ukrainian Defense Minister, Yuri Sack, warned in a conversation with ‘Khan News’ that the drones used in Ukraine will eventually reach Israel. Therefore, according to him, “Israel needs to help Ukraine with anti-drone equipment, in order to learn how to defend against them. The current report shows how right we were.”
