It’s been quite a while since we got a new game in the franchise of Tekken, but the wait will be over soon. The next title in the Tekken series has been officially confirmed as part of the broadcast of theState of Play of Sony, and it is not surprisingly named Tekken 8. The game was revealed with a first trailer, showing the new graphics engine with the help of a battle demo between the old character (in the game not the age of the character) Jin Kazama and Wakazuya Mishima. There is not too much to expand on the trailer itself.
In the clip you can see a rainy battlefield before Jin starts talking about how people like him and Kazuya Mishima shouldn’t exist in the world, of course his father doesn’t agree, and that’s where the fight starts. Although the trailer only shows a PlayStation 5 logo, suggesting that the new game will be exclusive to the next-gen platform. After the presentation, Bandai Namco also confirmed that the game will be coming to Xbox Series X and PC via Steam. The game will most likely run on 4K resolution (according to the trailer), which Bandai Namco also confirms that the game will run on the new Enrile 5 engine.
Tekken executive producer, Katsuhiro Harada confirmed that everything we saw in the trailer – “the characters, backgrounds and effects” – are all in-game assets. The scene is taken from the game’s story mode, but according to Harada, it does resemble what players will experience in battles. “Even though this clip was recorded from the story mode, it’s not a pre-rendered scene made for the trailer but footage rendered in real-time,” said Harada, “The game runs at 60 frames per second, similar to how you would experience the game in battle modes.”
As mentioned, Tekken 8 will come to the new generation consoles, the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Seires, as well as to the PC through the Steam platform. Unfortunately for millions of players, the game will probably not make it to the previous generation of consoles. In addition, no release date or set time for the game’s launch has been revealed. No other characters were revealed during the short trailer either.
