The musical is the protagonist of the new great entertainment bet for the ‘prime time’ of Telecinco. ‘The musical of your life’ is the adaptation of ‘The musical of your life’, a Belgian format released with great success in this country in 2021 with a first season that reached a 36% audience. The space is produced in Spain by the chain together with Globomedia (The Mediapro Studio) and mixes the ‘talk show’ with the musical genre in the purest Broadway style.
In each installment, the famous protagonist will review his life in an in-depth interview and will be able to relive memorable, crucial, and even unexpected moments of his vital experience through musical numbers produced, choreographed, and performed by professionals with a proven track record in the genre. Miguel Bosé, Ana Obregón, Tamara Falcó and Paulina Rubio will be some of the protagonists who will sit next to the Basque presenter on a set that Mediaset warns that it will be “spectacular”.
The program will mix music and the emotion typical of the lives of celebrities with other reunions and surprises, in an ambitious format that is expected to be white, in keeping with the new editorial line promoted by Mediaset in the last year, and directed for the entire family. In addition, ‘El musical de tu vida’ will have musical numbers based on very popular and recognizable songs for the general public, themes that the program’s artistic team “will reinterpret with great ingenuity and humor around the great anecdotes of life of the guests, who will be transferred to the stage in a musical format”, according to the communication group.
In this way, Mediaset looks at an international space to try to replicate its success in the ‘prime time’ of Telecinco, a slot that comes out of the summer very weak after not curdling its summer bets among the public. ‘The musical of your life’ is currently preparing its third edition in Belgium, its first season in Germany and has been acquired for adaptation in more than ten territories, including the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. In its brief history, the format has been awarded the prestigious Rose D’Or in 2022, the International Award for Best Factual Entertainment at MIPTV 2022, and the C21 Award for Best Factual Format.
New proposals
It will be, in short, one of the great bets of the season on Telecinco, with no date for broadcast yet, although it will foreseeably arrive in prime time this fall. The new leadership of Mediaset, among which is the CEO Alessandro Salem as replacement for Paolo Vasile, began an intense search for formats months ago to revive the image and audience of a television that, until 2021, was unbeatable.
In this process, the group’s management opened up to other production companies that in previous stages always received a ‘no’ for an answer. From these first negotiations, the return of ‘Me slips’ was approved with Shine Iberia and, with Gestmusic, the return of ‘Allá tú’, both broadcast this summer.
The new season at Mediaset will start in a few days, with new content that will be mixed with other recognizable content for the general public. Thus, together with ‘El musical de tu vida’, Telecinco will premiere the new edition of ‘Got talent’, which incorporates comedian Florentino Fernández as a jury’, and the expected return of ‘Big Brother VIP’, with Marta Flich at the controls . There will also be news on the daily schedule: the mornings will be by Ana Terradillos (‘La mirada crítica’) and Joaquín Prat (‘Vamos a ver’), while Ana Rosa Quintana jumps into the afternoons with ‘TardeAR’.
