Telecom operators are offered forward contracts for Russian equipment

Russian telecom operators may receive a reprieve from the ban on purchasing foreign equipment in exchange for entering into forward contracts with domestic manufacturers of base stations. The corresponding provision will be discussed at the December meeting of the State Commission for Radio Frequencies (SCRF), a source close to the SCRF participants and an interlocutor in one of the electronics manufacturers told Vedomosti.

From the agenda for the meeting (available to Vedomosti) it follows that, among other issues, it is planned to discuss the use of Russian and foreign LTE equipment by Russian telecom operators. Operators are proposed to be divided into two groups: those that should use only domestic equipment in the construction of LTE networks from 2028, and those that will have to do the same already from 2023, is indicated on the agenda.
