Making ARCEP Benin a strong and benchmark regulatory institution that promotes the development of a digital economy in Benin is the challenge for those responsible for the regulatory institution. It is within this framework that the organization of the capacity building workshop for consumer associations falls. At the launch of the training, Hervé Guèdègbé, Executive Secretary of ARCEP Benin, praised the consumer associations for their availability and presence at the capacity building workshop. Following him, Flavien Bachabi, president of Arcep Benin, specified that this capacity building workshop for consumer associations is important for the regulator. “In all reforms, the regulator thinks of consumers. Because, he continues, “we are in a sector where everything moves quickly. We want to seek your support to raise awareness among consumers about certain services. We have done a lot of things together, on the awareness-raising effects of sanctions. It is a privileged workshop for your attachment. You helped Arcep raise consumer awareness about the use of services; the Free Roaming agreement with Togo; the effects of the installation of radioelectric sites in Benin; which are tools put in place to respond to consumer concerns, the marketing of communications terminals, the challenges of the postal sector because of the efforts in this sector.
The president of the Beninese regulator of electronic communications and postal services also indicated that concerns from consumer associations are expected at this workshop. “We want this session to be interactive. This is an opportunity for consumer associations to highlight their concerns,” concluded Flavien Bachabi, president of Arcep Benin. Furthermore, this training comes after the workshop on August 11, 2023 which mobilized consumer associations and mobile network operators.
As a reminder, the regulator’s vision is to have, among other things, a benchmark administration and a lever for developing the digital and postal markets. Its main missions consist, among other things, of competitive intelligence, authorization management, management of rare resources and consumer protection.
