The New York Times published that the FGJ-CDMX requested from Telcel the telephone records of politicians and officials, including the licensed mayor of Benito Juárez, in Mexico City, Santiago Taboada (PAN); senators Lilly Téllez (Morena, later PAN) and Higinio Martínez Miranda (Morena) and Horacio Duarte (Morena), Secretary of Government in the State of Mexico.

Flores explained that in accordance with articles 189 and 190 of the Federal Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law, concessionaires must provide the information that the prosecutor’s offices require.

According to the articles stated, “telecommunication concessionaires and, where applicable, the authorized and providers of application and content services are obliged to comply with any written, founded and reasoned order from the competent authority in the terms established by the laws.”
