Faced with the risk of suspension of the messaging application in Brazil, Telegram deleted, around 2:30 p.m. this Wednesday (10), a message that misrepresented the Fake News Bill – in the midst of a dispute involving large technology companies and representatives of the three Powers- minutes after a determination by magistrate Alexandre de Moraes.
Moraes threatened to suspend the application’s service for 72 hours if he did not delete the text sent to users the day before, in which he said that PL 2630 gives the government power of censorship and that “Brazil is about to pass a law that destroys freedom of expression”.
The Telegram offensive provoked a reaction from members of Lula’s executive, Parliament and the Public Ministry.
The National Consumer Secretariat opened an investigation procedure to find out if Telegram violated consumer rights. The Administrative Council for Economic Defense must include the platform in the proceedings on the actions of technology companies against the regulatory project.
