Telegram is testing the sponsored messages feature, according to the official messenger platform.
“Advertising messages are currently in test mode. Once they are fully launched and allow Telegram to cover its core costs, we will start sharing advertising revenues with the owners of public channels that display sponsored posts, ”the message says.
It is noted that online advertising should no longer be synonymous with violating user privacy. “Unlike other apps, Telegram never uses your personal data to target ads. Telegram advertisements are based solely on the topics of the public channels in which they are shown. This means that no user data is mined or analyzed to display ads, and every user who views the Telegram channel sees the same advertising messages, ”the platform says.
Earlier, the founder of the messenger Pavel Durov announced that paid functions will appear in the Telegram messenger from 2021. He explained the need for monetization by an increase in costs due to an increase in the number of users of the service. He noted that advertising on Telegram will appear only in large channels, and not in private chats, while it will be contextual, not targeted.
