A special gift from Miss Doll Guatemala

Barbie was a gift from Luis Alberto Gómez, creator of the doll beauty pageant Miss Doll Guatemalawhich recreates beauty pageants with Barbie-type dolls. With this gift, the universal queen brought with her a significant part of Guatemala, symbolized in a doll that represents both her beauty and charisma as well as the rich culture of Alta Verapaz. Gómez’s talent transcended borders, reaching an international audience with this special gift for Miss Universe.

“En Casa con Telemundo” is a family entertainment and good news program that airs Monday through Friday on Telemundo. It is hosted by Andrea Meza, Chiky BomBom, Aleyda Ortiz and Carlos Adyan.

The regional costume worn by Sheynnis Palacios

The costume worn by Sheynnis Palacios in Antigua Guatemala is originally from San Pablo Tamahú, one of the 17 municipalities that make up the department of Alta Verapaz.

The traditional attire worn by women consists of three pieces: a red tocoyal, a predominantly red güipil with green and purple details on a white background. The fabric of the güipil includes marquesotes or squares that represent the earth and can be decorated with jugs, small pyramids, ducks or other animals. The cut is a loose skirt, pleated only at the waist, red with black lines, a detail that allows it to be distinguished from the cut of the municipality of Tactic.

This traditional costume reflects the rich cultural heritage of the region and the artisanal skills of the people of San Pablo Tamahú. By incorporating these details into Barbie, we pay tribute to Guatemalan traditions and identity, highlighting the cultural diversity of the country. In addition, this gift pays tribute to Sheynnis Palacios, a woman who has inspired many and who is admired for being one of the Central Americans who has won the title of Miss Universe.
