Scientists at the Telescope Array project announced the discovery of the most powerful cosmic ray in the history of observations. Signals from this beam from the telescope, which is located in the mountains of the American state of Utah, were first received on May 27, 2021.

“It’s interesting because we don’t know what could be the source of such powerful energy,” said astronomer Clancy James (quoted by Nature).

The beam is a high-energy particle that moves through space at a speed close to the speed of light. She was named Amaterasu, after the Japanese Sun Goddess.
