Television Lifetime Award to Shyama Prasad, Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram:Shyama Prasad will be honored with the State Government’s highest visual media award, Television Lifetime Achievement Award, for his contribution to the Malayalam television sector. Minister Saji Cherian announced that the award consists of two lakh rupees, a certificate of appreciation and a sculpture.

The Jury, chaired by Sasikumar, veteran journalist and winner of the first Television Lifetime Achievement Award, said that Shyamaprasad is a genius who has laid the foundation of aesthetics in the field of Malayalam television. In the ten years from 1984 to 1994, he produced excellent programs for Doordarshan, using all the visual possibilities of the medium of television aesthetically.

After studying at the School of Drama, Shyamaprasad obtained a Master’s degree in Media Production from the University of Hull, England.After working as an intern at the BBC and Channel Four, he became an Assistant Producer at Doordarshan in 1994. In 1993, Shyamaprasad, who made excellent telefilms and serials based on the works of Uirthejhunnelp (Albert Comeau), Nilawariunnu (Sarah Joseph), Peruvahiile Kariilakal (N. Mohanan), the world-famous nose (Basheer), Matami Ughamam (K. Surendran) and Shamanatalam (K. Radhakrishnan), etc. In 1994 and 1996, he received the State Award for Best Television Director.

Directed by Shyama Prasad, the films Agnisakshi, Udasha and Ehe Kadal won the National Awards for Best Malayalam Film. He has won the State Film Award for Best Director five times.
