Temirtau Tram Park Turns 65. Karaganda Online

by time news

On September 5, 1959, the first tram entered the city streets, marking the beginning of a new era in the development of the Temirtau transport system.

Since then, the city’s tram fleet has expanded significantly. In 1961, trams began running to the old part of the city, in 1964 a line was opened from the industrial base to TPP-2, in 1966-1968 a new line was laid to the coke plant, and in 1991 the rails reached the 8th microdistrict, becoming an important part of the city’s transport infrastructure.

However, despite its glorious history, tram service in Temirtau has come under threat in recent years. Due to insufficient maintenance and funding, service on the only remaining route, No. 4, was stopped more than a year ago, which has seriously affected the city’s transport system and left residents without their usual mode of transport.

Currently, Qarmet is carrying out large-scale work to restore the tram network. The project includes major repairs of the most worn-out sections of the tracks, routine repairs, complete replacement of the electrical part and contact connections, as well as updating the suspension system. This will allow the new trams to operate more efficiently and safely.

The return of tram service is not only a technical achievement, but also a significant step in preserving the city’s cultural identity.

The tram has always been an integral part of Temirtau’s urban life, and its restoration symbolizes a new stage in the city’s development, opening up prospects for the future.
